# Create a Location Category Attribute

Creating a location category attribute is great for multi-location businesses. With this attribute, you will be able to assign specific locations to categories and generate reports based on locations.

1. Navigate to [manage.acadiapos.com](https://manage.acadiapos.com) for **Retail** or [rfsm.acadiapos.com](https://rfsm.acadiapos.com) for **Restaurant**

2. Click "Items"

3. Click "View Categories"

4. Click "Category Attributes"

5. Click "New Category Attribute"

6. In the field under **ATTRIBUTE CODE(E.G., DRIVERS_LICENSE)** enter the code **location**.

7. In the field under **ATTRIBUTE NAME**, enter the name **Location** or the name you want to appear to the user.

8. From the drop-down menu under **CUSTOM ATTRIBUTE TYPE**, select **String**.

9. From the drop-down menu under **FRONTEND INPUT TYPE**, choose **Select**.

10. An additional field will appear where you can press **+ Add New** to add the names of the location that you want the user to choose from.

11. - In the field under **UI COLUMN SIZE IN POS**, enter a value from **1-12**. This value represents how wide the field is going to be and should be based on how many characters the average response will require. The most common values for Category Attributes are between 3 and 6.

- Under Value and Label, add the names of the location that you want the user to choose from.

12. Click "Save Changes"
