# General Settings – Enable Backorders

Allow users to charge customers for items that are not currently in stock. This is useful for businesses that order products for customers after they make a purchase or businesses that take a bit longer to update their stock quantities.

1. Navigate to [manage.acadiapos.com](https://manage.acadiapos.com) for **Retail** or [rfsm.acadiapos.com](https://rfsm.acadiapos.com) for **Restaurant**

2. Click "Settings"

3. Click "General Settings"

4. Use the **Filter** **Settings** field to find the section "Stock Management" or scroll down until you see it.

5. Under "Allow Backorders", select **Enabled**.

6. Scroll down and click "Save"
