This pricerule is for businesses that want to create a promotion for buying a number of given products or items, and once they are all chosen and in the cart, that’s when the price rule percentage is activated. Popular amongst grocery stores.
Lets say the promotion says, you buy a 16 oz sirloin steak, you also get a bag of potatoes, and broccoli. If you put all of those items into the product list, and choose the percentage. Once they are all selected, that percentage will be applied.
Tip: 🎯 Cart Item Discount – Percentage Amount (One-Time Use Per Item)
This discount applies a percentage dollar amount off each item.
Example:
If you apply a 10% off discount to a product using this method, each item in the cart will receive a 10% discount
Example for a Spanish Grocer:

1. Let’s make a new discount rule using the “Cart Item / Percentage” option. Follow the guide below for step-by-step instructions
2. Click on the “Items” tab on the left hand side of the screen
3. At the top right of the screen click on “Price/Discount Rules”
4. Click on “New Price/Discount Rule” to create a new discount.
5. Click the “Name” field to type in the name of your discount. Ex: Goya 10% Off.
Select “Cart Item/Percentage” under Pricerule Type.
6. Click the “Type to search” box under products to select the items you want to include in this discount or sale. Start typing in the name of the product(s) you want included in this discount.
Choose Categories if you want all items in that category to get the discount. Just make sure not to select both categories and individual products at the same time.
7. To add another product to the discount, click the dropdown under products and select the next item, here we are choosing Goya pinto 1L.
8. Once you’ve chosen all of the items for your discount, it should look like this. To delete an item, just click the X next to its name.
Click the arrow again when finished adding products.
9. Scroll down and under the “Amount” field this is where you’ll enter the percentage off of these products.
In this example we can put (10) to activate 10% Off these products.
10. Click “Save Changes”
11. Additional customization options for your discount rule:
- Days of the Week: Choose exact days when you want the discount active.
- Hours of the Day: Choose certain hours, like “Lunch Special”, when the discount applies.
- Start & End Dates: Choose a specific start and end date for the discount to be active.
These options help you precisely adjust when the discount is available.
Tip: This feature permits businesses to add a percentage-based discount when specific products are put into the customer’s cart at the POS register. It’s practical for creating targeted promotions.
For example, 10% off when certain items are purchased helps drive sales and increase basket size.
