This guide explains how to enable substring searching in AcadiaPOS so staff can find customers by last name or partial name from the Assign Customer/rewards screen.
1. Navigate to manage.acadiapos.com for Retail or rfsm.acadiapos.com for Restaurant and click Settings in the sidebar menu.

2. Click General settings. Press Ctrl + F (Windows) or ⌘ + F (Mac) and find “Use substring search when searching customers(worse performance)”

3.
- Use substring search when staff need to find customers by last name or by part of a name on the Assign Customer/rewards screen.
- Select “Enabled” for Use substring search when searching customers(worse performance).
- In the newer management interface, the lable is use substring search when searching customers.

4. Click “Save” and refresh the POS station’s settings.

5. Navigate to MobilePOS app and click on assign button

6. Search for a customer’s last name. For example, “Smith”

7. A substring search matches text anywhere in a name: searching for Smith can find both Anna Smith and Ben Smith

- In POS versions 1.0.638-1.0.741, disabling Substring Search prioritizes names, phone numbers, emails that start with the entered text. If none match, it searches within those fields.
- A matching name or email beginning with Smith can therefore prevent other customers named Anna Smith or Ben Smith from appearing.
Result Order by Customer Search
- As of POS version 1.0.741, customer search results are shown with the highest customer IDs first. There is no setting to sort these results alphabetically by first name and then last name. Substring search controls which customers match; it does not change their order.
- Alphabetical customer result sorting requires an app change. The alphabetical sorting options for products, modifiers, and tabs apply to their respective lists. When reporting a sorting issue, include the station’s app version so support can check whether a later version adds the requested order.
